First chick to hatch
Hatching eggs is a whole new dimension to raising chickens. You might have a broody and want to put her to good use by raising your own chicks. You may want to expand your flock by bringing in other breeds. Whatever you want to do it for, it is guaranteed to bring you loads of joy and education and maybe a little bit of parental angst as your chicks struggle their way into the world. Believe me, this is a birth event you won't want to miss.
We now sell hatching eggs so you can have your very own bundles of fluff. These are ideal for schools and homes. Hatching a young chick is a very rewarding process to be enjoyed by old and young alike. As the postage system cannot be relied upon to safely handle the eggs we are offering the eggs as collection only. You can see what each breed looks like by going to our "Chickens for sale" page. There you will see images from egg to adult of both female and male.

We are making our commercial standard hybrid eggs listed below available monthly
Hedgerow Lavender
Hedgerow Blacktail
Hedgerow Sussex
Hedgerow Sussex Rock
Hedgerow Cuckoo
Hedgerow Buff Barred
Hedgerow Amber
Hedgerow Rhode Rock
Hedgerow White Leghorn
Hedgerow Partridge Leghorn
If you contact us we can let you know when the next offering will be. The commercial hybrids are bred to be docile so make perfect pets too.

Our very own Ausbar eggs are offered daily and are sold as a mixed box of colours. The resulting chickens are a bit of a surprise when they hatch. We offer a mixed colour of eggs so you will get a mixed result. The egg colour is any freshly laid egg from blue through to white and darker brown. The resulting chicken colours will be anything from Chestnut, White Splash, Ginger, Ebony, or Speckled. They have Australorp and Legbar in their genes so they may turn out crested and some even lay a blue egg but this cannot be guaranteed as Mother Nature herself will decide. Our stock cockerel changes regularly so the variation in offspring is a nice surprise. We have excellent fertility on the Ausbar eggs. The Ausbar chicken is a large bird. They are non-flighty and like the commercials are friendly too.

Egg quantity:
You can expect around 300 eggs in the first laying year from our commercial standard hybrids, and 120-180 or more from the Ausbar range.

You can reserve your eggs using the "add to cart" button (no paypal account required) and we will let you know when they are available for collection so please ensure your email address and contact details are accurate.

Please note there may be up to a month wait until the commercial eggs are available, whereas the Ausbars are available most days.

Hatchrate:

Please note that fertility can be between 80-95% and the hatchrate we achieve is about 65-75% so bear this in mind when you order. We are getting 98% hatchrate from the Ausbars. The hatchrate is very dependent on your incubation method and conditions so we cannot be held responsible for no-shows. You are also likely to get a 50/50 (variable) ratio of cockerels so you need to think about whether you will have difficulty keeping them before you begin to think about hatching your own eggs. Nature is fickle and results can depend on many factors.

Our guarantee
For any eggs which turn out to be infertile, we will reduce the price of one of our hatched chicks by the price you paid for the egg. Thus keeping your brood at the correct age. It will also be guaranteed female. All we require is the eggs returned for verification by candling.
Hatching chicks in schools is becoming very popular. Seeing a chick emerge from a regularly seen household food object is a remarkably educational experience for young enquiring minds in schools and nurseries.

Many places will offer this service but it often leaves the school with the headache of coping with the resulting chicks and sometimes the chicks have a less than ideal life, which we are very keen to avoid.

Our offerings:
Package 1: Incubation

The hire of a fully automatic incubator package complete with hatching eggs, brooder, heat source, and feeding equipment including the necessary feed for your chicks.

The cost is 99 plus a deposit of 100 (refundable on safe and undamaged return of all equipment)

Package 2: Brooder
The hire of a brooder, heat source and all the bits and bobs you need to keep your chicks. It comes complete with ready hatched unsexed chicks.

The cost is 55 plus a deposit of 75 (refundable on safe and undamaged return of all equipment)

You can hire the chicks for up to 2 weeks, (or longer by arrangement for an additional small fee). At the end when you no longer want or need them we can collect them to be rehomed with loving families. Alternatively you can keep any or all chicks yourselves by paying 5 per chick (which will be taken out of your deposit) and raise them as your own. Be aware that with every hatch there will be a 50/50 chance of males.

Both these packages give you all of the educational value with none of the responsibility following the hatch.

We will need 3 weeks notice for the ready hatched brooder option (2) and we will be operating a booking system as the incubator supply is limited so please book early to guarantee your package.

We will deliver and set up the incubator/brooder ready for you so all you need to do is sit back and watch nature take its course.

It all comes with a fully comprehensive set of care notes and hatching instructions and our full support for the duration.

For distances over and above 15 miles from CH66 4RB we will reluctantly need to charge a mileage allowance of 45p per additional mile.

Terms and Conditions apply. Please contact us for further details.
